Mobile phone contract question?
I was in an 18 month mobile phone contract with O2. The actual contract finished over a year ago but I haven't upgraded and have just continued with my existing mobile phone and payment plan.

I am now looking to get a Samsung S6 but with a different provider. Release date is around 10th April 2015. What I am trying avoid is getting the new phone & contract and when cancelling the existing and they tell me they can't stop the direct debit for 30 days or whatever.

My question is do I need to give a notice period to cancel / stop the direct debit payments now so I avoid paying paying a monthly payment twice in April. As I've said, I'm not tied into a contract now so just wondered if I still need to give 30 days notice.

I have searched google and the O2 site but can't find the answer. There is information about cancellation if still in the contract period but not when outside.

Cheers

Re: Mobile phone contract question?
Your continued use of their services (well) after the original date of expiry may legally be interpreted as a renewal request & acceptance: you may still be under contract for another 6 months.

Find their T&C web page and do a search on a few key words and see what pops up.

Once your 'locked-in' period ends the contract is still in force, you're just not locked in anymore. Contract is still valid and you will need to give the required notice period, normally a month or thereabouts.

It's always worth getting your tariff downgraded after the contract has expired otherwise you end up paying for a phone thats already been paid for

I would just pop into carphone warehouse and get it all sorted, they will advise on the contractual notice period and get you the best deal - even if you were to decide to stay with o2.

Re: Mobile phone contract question?
I know it's usually 30 days notice if in the period of the contract. But I'm not in the contract now but Justin continuing the with the same monthly payments. I just wondered if it's still 30 days notice of cancellation if now outside the contract period. I guess it is then.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you have to give 30days notice regardless.

I would personally phone them now and see what they can offer you to stay
